About us
GAIA TROJANOWSKI, CMT
Athletics have been a lifelong part of Gaia's life. From volleyball, track & field and skiing as a youngster, to racing mountain bikes, rock climbing and teaching skiing after graduating high school. She was encouraged to pursue mountain bike racing for the Olympics but that wasn't the path for her. She has remained active throughout her life, just not competitively. Not immune to injuries that accompany an active lifestyle, Gaia found herself slowing down and becoming more and more cautious, taking less physical risks and eliminating some fitness elements that are mentally and emotionally exhilarating. Sinking into depression and moving less was tasted, and she quickly decided that path is not an option. Gaia was introduced to super slow, high intensity resistance exercise in 2020, but couldn't practice when the gyms closed during the Covid pandemic. Her body NEEDED strength training to get strong again and reverse any atrophy that had begun it's degrading process. In 2021, the gyms were still closed in Truckee, so she started driving 225 miles every Tuesday morning to get to the Super Slow Zone in San Jose, CA for her tailored 25 min weekly workout. |
As a team
Some people considered Gaia crazy for driving that much for such a short workout, but she didn't have an option. Get strong or continue to degrade. Her partner Tashi started going with her and they would take Tues/Wed to exercise at the Super Slow Zone, then work, hike or mountain bike around Santa Cruz before driving the 225 miles back to Truckee on Wednesday evenings. Being at the ocean is always a plus!
The gyms eventually opened back up in Truckee and they tried to replicate their training at a "normal" gym. The atmosphere, equipment and timing of the circuit was different and very difficult to replicate the success they were obtaining with the ergonomically cammed Nautilus One equipment they were used to using. Soooo.... Tashi and Gaia bought the equipment necessary and opened up ELS Strength Lab in Truckee! Selfishly motivated to stay strong and square their own mortality curves, they set up their Strength Lab primarily for themselves. Gaia's massage clients and peers were interested in getting strong and staying strong as well, so inspired by Doug McGuff and Body by Science, Tashi and Gaia decided to take the necessary certification courses and offer personal training to anyone willing to come in and do the work with them.
Gaia's knowledge and experience as a bodyworker and Tashi's knowledge and experience as a scientist makes them a good team for offering personal training to their clients. Always striving to learn more and endeavoring to live a thriving life, they are focused on guiding their clients to success, encouraging everyone to be the hero of their own stories.
